Easy Start Programming

Prior to programming you may want to confirm that you have the Preferences set as you wish them. To initiate Easy Start Programming, place your StepWatch face down (red side down) so that it fits into the depression on the dock. Select Start Recording Activity... from the Monitor menu. The software will read some information from the StepWatch. This will take a few seconds. The Start StepWatch screen will then appear.

Complete the client description and start time information. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the intent of the client description questions. Explanations are provided in the links below.

Easy Start Settings
  • Height
  • Quickstep
  • Walking Speed
  • Speed Range
  • Leg Motion
When you are satisfied with your description, click the Start button to initiate programming. You also have the option of changing when the monitor will start recording, the estimated duration of how long it will run, and adding notes. Notes will be retained in the StepWatch memory and in the downloaded data file. Once the programming is completed, you are ready to confirm your settings by watching the LED blink as they walk and begin collecting data. For instructions about wearing the monitor, refer to the Client Instructions.

You may wish to check the appropriateness of your settings by watching the LED blink one time per step while your subject walks at their normal speed. You may also havea them walk at their "slowest pace they would normally walk" and the "quickest pace they would normally walk." Your subject should not try to look at the monitor as this will change their walking pattern. Watch to see that the Step"Watch is not double blinking on slow steps or missing fast steps. If you are walking with the subject do not lead them or trail too far behind as this may influence theirt natural pace. If possible stand still at the front, back, or side and simply observe.

Once a monitor hasa been programmed, do not double check your settings by reading recorded activity or reading current settintgs. Both of these actions will stop the recording, and no data will be logged until the moitor is reprogrammed. The monitor should not be read until it has had a chance to begin and record at least one interval.

Communications Troubleshooting: If a message appears reporting a communications error, check your cable connections, the position of the StepWatch on the dock, and your Communications settings. If you still have problems, see the Read Data help for further communications troubleshooting hints. Consult the website Cyma Web Site for a list of known issues and fixes.

Caution: Running Email, Internet Browser, or intensive networking software in the background when you are programming or downloading your StepWatch can cause errors. It is always best to quit such background applications before initiating communications.
